Operating System
Operating system is a collection of programs that manage the whole activity of
the system.
It acts as an interface between the software and hardware or between the user and the
computer.
Ex. UNIX, DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows XP, Vista, etc.,

- FIRST GENERATION – NONE
- SECOND GENERATION – BATCH SYSTEM
- THIRD GENERATION – MULTI PROGRAMMING, SPOOLING
- FOURTH GENERATION – WINDOWS, LINUX.
- FIFTH GENERATION – WINDOWS XP, WINDOWS NT, VISTA
