HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF COMPUTERS

Depending upon the needs man has developed computers generation after generation. The evolution of computers started around 3500 BC.

It is described below:-

1. ABACUS : 

•  First Computer on earth.
•  Developed by Egyptians/Chinese. 
•  First Calculating aid. 

2. NAPIER BONES :

•  Invented by John Napier in 1614. 
•  It is designed by bones and wood.
•  It uses set of rods for processing.

 3. ARITHMATIC MACHINE : 

• Invented by Blaise Pascal in 1642.
• I could only add and subtract.

 4. LEIBNIZ DEVICE : 

• Invented by Gottrified Wilhalm Won Leibnitz in 1671
•   It could add, multiply, divide and evaluate square roots. 

5. ANALYTICAL ENGINE : 

• Invented by Charles Babbage in 1822. 
• He is called the father of computer. 
• It could make decisions.  It is known as automatic calculator. 
• Augusta Ada Lovelace developed the program for analytical engine. 
•  She is known as the first Computer programmer.

 6. TABULATING MACHINE :

•   Invented by Herman Hollerith in 1889 
• Data are stored in punched cards. 
• It is developed to store census data.
